Very Inky And Messy

Hello folks, hoping you're having a lovely day of sunshine as we have here with a brief appearance of summer and hoping it lasts a bit.
I'm here today with my rather late DT piece for Fashionable Stamping Challenges current theme - Let's Get Messy & Inky which I couldn't do last weekend due to my sinus troubles (which have decided to come back too!) but this time I decided to just get on with what I have to do.

I made the background paper for my card using a Julia Andrus mottled paper technique from her lovely book Paper Transformed and although I couldn't make it do exactly what Julia's sample did (hers was a lot more mottled) I'm quite pleased with the effect I did achieve. I used Shabby Shutters, Victorian Velvet and Wild Honey for the technique and added Crushed Olive round the edges afterwards.
I stamped on the flourish style flowers (Kanban Birds of Paradise clear stamp set) with Memories Delicate Rose.
I then die cut the cage and bird by Tim Holtz from thick white card. I inked the cage with Frayed Burlap Distress ink then with embossing ink and embossed with Stampendous Frantage Aged Silver Embossing Powder (I think this is just gorgeous!).
I coloured the bird and wings with a mix of Promarkers and Distress inks ad added him to the card with the cage.
I die cut a flourish with a Marianne die from white card and inked this with the rose ink to finish off my card.

If you haven't yet entered the FSC challenge you still have a few days left so why not give it a try - I can't think of anything more fun craft wise than getting inky!
Hugs, Fliss xx

Challenges for my card:
Samuel Taylor's - Die Cuts
Crazy Amigo's Challenge - Free Theme
Simon Says Stamp and Show - No Rules!
Stamptacular Sunday - To Die For (2 or more dies)

  2. Saw the picture of this come up on Blogger and fell in love instantly Fliss. This is one of my favourite cards of all times, and I don't say that lightly. The colours are perfect, the floral stamp is to die for (off to search it out next) and the bird, cage and floral die cut just make the whole thing sing to me.
Gotta get on with my inky entry - it's next on the list so the housework will just have to wait :D
Thanks for sharing, hugs Buttons x
