Smarter Than You Think
Hello folks, I hope you've all had a good week and are ready for the weekend as I most definitely am although I have to do some work tomorrow to finish something off - no rest for the wicked you might say!
Today's post is to tell you about the project that I have for you over at That's Crafty which this week is something rather different as I've been experimenting with ways to get the look of parchment work without spending ages on it - I'm too impatient you see!

Inky Antics
Hello again and welcome to my inspirational piece for the new challenge over at That's Crafty which has the theme this time of Inky Antics and boy, did I get inky mitts making it!
I've used ink for absolutely everything on my card including the background and for colouring the flower. Read on to find out how I made it.
I used my Stampendous Creative Palette again to make the background with Distress inks in various shades and misted the plate with water before pressing down the watercolour paper. The piece I used was A5 size and as my intended card blank was 7x5, I had some pieces left over to make other things with.
I stencilled the mono printed paper using a Prima 12x12 stencil and used parts of the stencil with stronger shades of Distress ink to make the pattern. You'll see the the final layer (the green flourishes) is quite transparent so that the background looks layered.
I stamped the flower and leaf stalk with black ink then cut them out and coloured them by sponging with inks. It's easier to do this when they're cut out as you can control where the ink goes a lttle better.
I trimmed the background paper to fit the kraft card blank then inked the edges deep pink. I cut 3 squares from the trimmimgs and inked the edges pink then stamped the text on a further piece with black ink and again inked the edges pink.
I assembled the card as you see, adding pearls between the diamond shapes and to the dot on the text panel.

One For Dad With Studio 12
Hello everyone, guess who only remembered she was supposed to be doing her Studio 12 post at lunchtime - oops!
I immediately grabbed by Studio 12 scraps box to see what I could find and with Fathers Day looming fast here in the UK, have rustled up a very quick card with men in mind.
All I did was tear some scraps of paper - the gingery coloured polka dot paper is from the Gingerbread Twist CD and the distressed harlequin design from the All Sewn Up Collection of the Picknix Collection 1 CD - and added these to a kraft card blank with a scrap of vintage music score.
I then added the gorgeous robin digital image from the Gingerbread Twist CD and some text made with my Dymo machine and black tape. Done!
Well, I did say it was quick!
I also want to say sorry to everyone for my lack of visiting lately which is mostly because I'm inundated with work at the moment and the only reason I could do this is because I'm now waiting for a client to get some information to me. I'm not sure quite when the pile will get smaller but hopefully it won't be too long!

In The Pink At Studio 12
Hello everyone, I'm here today to tell you about my project over at Studio 12 which uses up some of those paper scraps which I'm sure like me,
you have in a box somewhere.
My card is made with my leftovers from projects made with the gorgeous Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD which is a real favourite of mine with its' vintage floral style and I've gone for a pink one this time.
My kraft card base is covered with 2 panels of the pretty pink paper from the All Sewn Up collection which is my favourite as I adore roses. I distressed the edges with an emery board before sticking them on.
I then die cut the gorgeous lacy oval (a new Marianne Design die set) from some beige parchment card and inked the edges pink. I die cut the trellis style die centre piece from a scrap of the brown and beige diamond pattern paper from the same collection as before and attached this with glue by brushing it on the reverse.
I then printed out the beautiful vintage rose spray from the Heavenly Garden collection together with the lovely Emily Bronte quote and cut these out.
I inked the edges of the quote and added this to the card then stuck on the oval panel and finally the rose spray which I added with foam tape for dimension.

A Gift Set For Studio 12
Hello folks, I hope you're all having a good week so far and when this post pops up, I'll be rushing around doing the final preparations for a workshop I'm teaching this morning (I'm hoping to show you my samples soon too).
I'm here today to tell you about the project I have over at Polka Doodles and Studio 12 which is an idea for gift giving with a matching card perfect for a dear friend.

Sisters Forever
Hello everyone and a special welcome to my new followers, so lovely to have you here and great to have you on board.
I'm here today with a very vintage piece of Studio 12 inspiration for you which came about because whilst looking for something else, I came across this absolutely gorgeous vintage photo of my husband's grandmother and her sister snapped around 1910. Their father owned a photographic studio which is still around today and my mother in law's cousin, the current owner, recently donated the vintage family photos to the local museum. This photo was one of them and I'm so lucky to have a copy.
The 2 girls look so sweet in their frilly frocks and flowery hats that I couldn't resist making something to show them off looking very pretty. The beautiful papers I used are all from the first Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD - All Sewn Up Collection which is my favourite on the CD.
I started off with an 8x10 inch canvas board which I covered with strips of paper which I tore with the aid of a ruler. It's a really great way to use up some of those leftover scraps as you don't have to use just strips, any pieces can be given the same treatment.
I glued the strips to the canvas board with PVA glue, wrapping ends round the back of the canvas and brushing more glue on top to anchor down any stray sticking up bits. When it was dry it was a little dark for my purpose so I dry brushed the whole board with antique linen acrylic paint. You can see in the second pic that this softens the look beautifully.
I die cut the Tim Holtz weathered clock and inked this up with Gathered Twigs Distress ink then glued it to a mat of the same rose paper used on the canvas board - can you see the contrast?
I cut out the 2 girls from the photo background leaving a small border of the dark grey to make the images pop.
I assembled the canvas board as you see, adding a paper rose and leaves (Prima) together with a vintage butterfly (from my vintage butterfly illustration book) and some inked die cut lace (Tim Holtz Sissix strip die).
I hope you like my little vintage creation and that it might inspire you to create something similar yourselves - I always think the vintage photos are the best and this is a great way to make sure they get put on display rather then hidden away in an album.

A Song In My Heart
Hello everyone, hoping you're surviving the snow if you have it - ours yesterday only lasted an hour before almost disappearing as the ground was too warm for it to settle properly.
I'm here today to share a canvas with you that is my inspiration over at Polka Doodles Meets Studio 12 and will show you that the gorgeous little robin from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 - Gingerbread Twist CD isn't just for Christmas lol.
I've gotten very inky and painty here and still have green fingers (not from gardening you understand!) and hope you like what I've created.
To
begin with, I painted my 20cm square canvas with a shade of acrylic
paint called Early Spring Green - can you tell what I'm longing for?! I
then used a chicken wire stencil to apply green gold and olive green
acrylic paints. As this looked a little darker than I wanted, I added a
light wash of the spring green watered down to soften the effect.
I then printed out one of the fern digital stamps from the Heavenly Garden section of the Picknix Collection 1 CD on to some vintage music score. I coloured the fern with Crushed Olive and Mowed Lawn Distress inks using a cosmetic sponge and cut them out when dry.
I then tore up some of the scraps of leftover music score and glued this to the canvas before sponging on a little of the Crushed Olive to blend the paper in. I glued the fern fronds on top.
To finish, I added the cute little robin using my favourite trick of adding foam tape near the top of the image and double sided tape at the base which gives a very realistic look to the little chap. I added some computer generated text inked with the Crushed Olive and a small heart trimmed from the leftover music score coloured with Barn Door Distress ink.

Christmas Wishes Tag
Hello folks, hope you're all having a good week and are hopefully not flooded out with all the rain we've had.
I have a tag to share with you today that's another of my never ending stream of Christmas makes and is also my inspiration over at the Studio 12 Creative Team blog.
Here it is and hope you like it!
I've used my favourite tag shape of the moment, my Tim Holtz cabinet card die and cut it out of kraft card.
I then covered it with one of the Christmas lights frames from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist, cutting it to shape round the top of the die cut.
I added some embellishments from the CD to make a little Christmas scene complete with fairy only not on top of the tree! I added lots of glitter to embellish although it doesn't show up very well in the photo.
I finished off with some gold ribbon at the top.

All Spruced Up!
Hello everyone and welcome to my new followers - so lovely to see you here and so glad to have you.
I'm here today with another Christmas decoration using some recycled materials along with some of the gorgeous images you'll find on the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist which is my inspiration for Studio 12 Creative Team.
I adore robins as we have a pair that nest every year in the ivy twining round one of our pergola posts and they're so cute when feeding their babies so the gorgeous images on the CD are a real favourite of mine and I couldn't resist using one of them on my decoration.
Here's what I made:
It's actually simpler than you might think as the base is made of 2 circles of greyboard, one left whole and the other with a central hole cut out. I used a circle cutter as I didn't have the right size dies but if you do it's a lot quicker! I painted the ring circle with deep green acrylic paint.
I then made the inside section firstly cutting a circle of plastic packaging slightly larger than the central hole of the ring and embossed this with Cuttlebug musical folder. I then inked it with Adirondack Watermelon and Butterscotch alcohol inks.
I cut an even larger circle of vintage music score and stuck this to the whole circle (this is the back of the wreath), then added the embossed panel using small pieces of tape round the edges so that it didn't show in the ring aperture.
I printed out the robin and some spruce which I re-sized slightly to fit my design - I dropped them all into a Word document as I find this the easiest way to print out multiple images. I then cut them out and inked the white portions of the spruce with green ink.
I assembled the wreath as you see, sandwiching some rustic twine between the 2 layers as a hanging loop then adding some bows and tiny roses to embellish it and cover up some of the gaps. As a finishing touch I then gave the spruce a coating of glitter glue and added a sprinkle of Distress Stickles Rock Candy dry glitter for some frosty sparkle.

The Lonesome Pine
Hello everyone, today is a special day for me as it's my birthday! Won't be sharing my age though as I've got to the stage of wanting to forget about it lol.
We're off to see Skyfall tonight and I can't wait as I love James Bond films and it's been too long since the last one. No meal out today as the film is an awkward time so I hope we'll do that sometime soon. I'm planning on some crafting today and also will be sorting out some goodies as candy is rather overdue.
I have a project to share with you that is my inspiration for today over at Studio 12 Creative Team.
My decoration started life as a rather cheap wooden whitewashed rustic style heart (from The Range) and after the makeover, here's the finished result - ta da!
It was quite difficult to photograph the heart hanger to show the full sparkle so there's a second pic with the tree detail so you can get the full Frantage effect of the stunning embossing powders I used here. A bit of the sparkle does show but I was a bit light challenged!
I gave the heart a wash of very watered down periwinkle blue and sage acrylic paint and when dry, dry brushed on a little antique white. Because I used a wash, the original wood still shows through to add loads of texture.
I then got to work with a Versamark ink pad to add streaks on the raised areas, sprinkled on the amazing new Ranger sticky embossing powder, heated it to melt and then added Ranger clear Rock Candy dry glitter which sticks to the embossing powder like magic. The photo doesn't really do justice to the amazing sparkle you get so you'll have to trust me there!
I then printed out one of the pine trees from the Gingerbread Twist Cd twice on to strong card and cut out one whole tree and alternate sections of the second, starting at the top.
I embossed the complete tree with Frantage Aged Green embossing enamel and the sections with Aged Silver. Just one coat is all you need for this effect. I then glued on the silver sections over the top of the corresponding green sections as shown in the photo.
I altered some snowflakes which came from a pound shop snowflake garland using Pear Green and Amethyst Promarkers to add a little colour and glued everything in place on the altered heart.

It was quite difficult to photograph the heart hanger to show the full sparkle so there's a second pic with the tree detail so you can get the full Frantage effect of the stunning embossing powders I used here. A bit of the sparkle does show but I was a bit light challenged!
I gave the heart a wash of very watered down periwinkle blue and sage acrylic paint and when dry, dry brushed on a little antique white. Because I used a wash, the original wood still shows through to add loads of texture.
I then got to work with a Versamark ink pad to add streaks on the raised areas, sprinkled on the amazing new Ranger sticky embossing powder, heated it to melt and then added Ranger clear Rock Candy dry glitter which sticks to the embossing powder like magic. The photo doesn't really do justice to the amazing sparkle you get so you'll have to trust me there!
I then printed out one of the pine trees from the Gingerbread Twist Cd twice on to strong card and cut out one whole tree and alternate sections of the second, starting at the top.
I embossed the complete tree with Frantage Aged Green embossing enamel and the sections with Aged Silver. Just one coat is all you need for this effect. I then glued on the silver sections over the top of the corresponding green sections as shown in the photo.
I altered some snowflakes which came from a pound shop snowflake garland using Pear Green and Amethyst Promarkers to add a little colour and glued everything in place on the altered heart.

A Heartwarming Christmas
Hello folks, hope you're managing to stay warm in this rather wild and windy weather we have, not to mention wet!
I'm back again (4th post this week!) today to share my card which is the inspiration over at the Studio 12 Creative Team and I made a vintage style creation with elements which all came from the Gingerbread Twist CD - another Christmas card for the pile - yay!
I covered the card blank with the pretty snowflake paper having first added a border trimmed from the kraft zigzag snowflake paper and a piece of black and white gingham ribbon for added pop.
I then added some circles of the same kraft paper and red poinsettia paper for contrast with a pretty white doily.
I finished off with the cute reindeer - don't you just love the little heart dangling from his antler - and one of the gorgeous word art elements.
The final touch is a handmade heart shaped button created from gold Fimo and stamped for texture before baking. I tied some thread into a bow through the holes.

Wings Of A Dove
Hello folks, it's a very chilly and frosty 1 degree here on the South coast this morning but the sun is shining so it's lovely and bright at least. The extra hour in bed was lovely too although it was still difficult to get out of the snuggly, warm covers.
I'm here today with my card which is part of the inspiration for the new giveaway at Studio 12 Creative Team which will be drawn at the end of November. This month the giveaway is really extra special too as it's some fabulous stash to the value of an amazing £50!
I made a shaped card blank with a Go Kreate XXL scalloped circle die and inked the edges with VersaMagic Magnolia Bud chalk ink. I added a panel of the gorgeous holly paper from the CD cut out with the same die set.
I printed out the beautiful dove on to very smooth white card and then sprinkled on detail gold embossing powder before the ink dried (you need to stand by the printer and add the powder immediately it comes out) and heated it to melt the powder.
I coloured the panel using various shades of VersaMagic inks after die cutting it to a circle. I made a mat for the panel by doodling text all around the edge with a brown fine pen then inking just the edge with Topaz and Split Pea VersaColor inks then sprinkled with crystal embossing powder to heat emboss for some sparkle.

Feeling A Little Bit Retro
Hello everyone, I'm hoping this post pops up as scheduled as I'm on
my way to do a Sage book-keeping test for some more work which I have to
confess I'm dreading as it's like being back at school lol
Anyhow, enough of my troubles and on to the mixed media project I'm sharing today at the Studio 12 Creative Team blog which is a rather retro style canvas board.
This came about as I was thinking back to my childhood recently and one memory jumped out at me. It concerned my Mum who was quite a dressmaker and she used to make clothes for me and my sister. I have a very clear memory of being really annoyed once because she made us each a frock in the same fabric but different colours. Mine had orange, pink and brown flowers and with my blonde hair, I knew even at the age of 10 that it didn't suit me!!! I have a feeling I made quite a fuss too!
I painted the canvas board with a mix of turquoise and light blue acrylic paint and then used a rather funky retro flower stencil (Crafters Workshop) and some light orange paint to add the flowers at the top of the canvas.
I printed out the mannequin from the All Sewn Up collection on the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 1 CD onto kraft card and cut it out. I then turned it over to the reverse as I didn't want the black lines and inked it with brown. I dry embossed some lines and rounded it out to make it look more 3D using a large ball tool.
I then printed a further mannequin on white card and using the outline as a pattern, drew a sixties style shift dress. I turned it over to the reverse and stamped on flowers from the Polka Doodles Daisy Doodles stamp set with pink, yellow, orange and brown.
I added a light orange die cut and embossed mat to the canvas and stuck on the mannequin and frock. I then added the die cut sentiment from the same CD and finished off with a variety of toning flowers, layered up and decorated with metal, pearl and jewel brads and some pearls.

Wings and Things
Morning all, it's Friday again and another case of where did the week go! It's time for a new challenge over at Polka Doodles today and the theme chosen by Jan is Wings and Things. You only have to look at the DT samples to see just how many variations this theme can have plus each of the top 3 for the challenge will be receiving a copy of the Here Comes Christmas CD which gives you tons of images, papers and toppers with a vintage flavour.
I'm still making Christmas cards as you'll see and have made a card in sepia tones with a splash of copper and loads of texture.
The elements on my card are all from the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist and I first covered my card blank with the gorgeous grungy holly paper in soft blue and beige.
I then changed the colour of the dove image to brown with a lot of help from my daughter as I'm a bit new to fiddling about on PSE and she's really good at it! I die cut the shape and coloured the image with Promarkers in soft shades. I added it to a mat of glittery copper card.
I made an embossed panel from textured kraft card with the Cuttlebug music score folder, sanded the raised areas and rubbed them with brown ink and then heat embossed it with clear powder before the ink dried.
I made a ruffle from the ginger polka dot paper, piercing holes along the centre and adding a running stitch to gather it up. After adding this to the card, I added Stickles tarnished bronze glitter glue over the stitching.
I made a branch border (doesn't it go well with the sprig the dove is carrying) using the Martha Stewart double edge punch, inked it with Vintage Photo Distress ink then embossed with clear powder.
The finishing touch is the sentiment which I die cut and inked.

Studio 12 Candy!
Good morning folks, hope you're all having a good weekend despite the definite chill in the air now heralding Autumn.
It's that time again over at Studio 12 Creative Team where we give away some fabulous candy just for the price of a quick post or sidebar addition and a comment on the giveaway post for one lucky follower so if you're not yet following now would be a good time! I don't know if you caught Rosemary yesterday on Create and Craft along with Leonie Pujol who's my favourite presenter. I hope you did as there were some great demos from Rosemary and tons of samples from the Creative Team including me!
I have another card to show you today made from the wonderful Gingerbread Twist CD and if you hop over to the Studio 12 blog there are lots more samples to feast your eyes on.
For my card, I used one of the lovely frames which I printed out then cut an oval aperture in as happily one of my dies was a perfect fit. I cut the frame out then inked the inner and outer edges and added this to my kraft card blank over the snowy scene I printed out.
I then added an embossed panel of kraft card together with one of the sentiments which I die cut and inked and some gingham ribbon to finish.
Very simple and easy!

Isn't She Lovely
Hello everyone, it seems like Autumn has appeared and hope you're all OK in
this rather wet, windy and chilly weather we have in the UK at the
moment. Don't know about you but I'm wearing layers of woollies already!
It's my turn today over at the Studio 12 Creative Team and I have a piece of artwork to show you that the Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist is not just for Christmas as you'll see from my creation below.
I wanted to make something to give as a gift to a family member featuring my favourite vintage photo of my much missed Mum taken around 1950 when she was 21 years of age. I printed the photo out on to canvas for a soft look to the gorgeous sepia tones.
I printed out the soft beige holly paper together with the stunning heart and lace embellishments on antique beige parchment card for a soft textured effect and you'd never guess when printed that it is actually Christmas paper.
I cut the paper to fit the chipboard and distressed the edges with my new favourite craft tool - an emery board. This gives a lovely rolled edge perfect for inking and is easier to control than a sanding block.
I then cut out the embellishments and inked them with beige and brown inks to add to the vintage effect. I layered the lace on to the base with some brown gingham ribbon peeping through underneath some a touch of stronger colour.
I die cut a panel from a scrap of the lovely gingery polka dot paper from the CD and added the trimmed photo. I stamped an embellishment from the top on a further scrap of the same paper with my favourite flourish stamp from the Daisy Doodles stamp set (worth a look for the great variety of images in the set) and embossed it with Ranger Weathered Wood embossing powder before cutting it out. As you can see, stamping it on the same paper makes it look part of the panel really well.
I added the inked heart and some vintage buttons from my collection tied with cream embroidery floss.

Hello folks, I'm back again today with another project I made for Nikky as part of the Studio 12 Creative Team using the new and gorgeous Gingerbread Twist CD which is the second in the Picknix Collection.
This time I've made a Christmas decoration in the form of bunting (so trendy at the moment) which can easily be made longer to fit the space available and if like me you use pre-cut bunting blanks, it really is very easy.
My pre-cut bunting pieces came from that handy shop The Range (and only cost £1!) though it's quite simple to make your own with a template or even a die if you have one.
I made a template for the paper pieces I've covered the bunting with and was able to get 2 out of each of the papers I chose.
I then chose some of the pre-coloured gingerbread ladies and men from Nikky's gorgeous Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist then printed them out and cut them out, adding them to the paper covered bunting with foam tape.
I then threaded the bunting on to some red and white seasonal bakers twine with red buttons in between to add a bit of texture.
How about that for a festive make!

Little Robin Redbreast
Good morning everyone, the weekend is nearly here and I certainly need mine after some wrestling with a very nasty VAT return this week as well as having to do 3 others!
I did have a little respite though as it was lovely and sunny yesterday so I went to Arundel with my daughter and had a great time browsing the antique markets then had tea and cake at a tearoom where we saw a fat little robin eating someone's leftover scone.
This brings me neatly to my vintage card for this week's challenge over at Polka Doodles where our theme is What's the Word Bird? This is one of the samples made for Nikky for last week's Create and Craft shows and is the one I was most pleased with. So without further ado, here it is!
The papers and all elements on my card are from the new Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist which has the most beautiful papers, images and gorgeous script too.
A little serendipity came in here to as I printed out the holly frame using a new pack of my usual smooth card only to find that 2 days later, the ink was still wet as when I sponged on the Distress inks it smudged rather badly. Inspiration struck so I printed it out again and added clear detail embossing powder and heated - problem solved! I inked the frame with Distress inks in Shabby Shutters, Crushed Olive, Forest Moss and Pine Needles then cut it out and dry embossed the centre with the Cuttlebug holly sprig folder. I then rubbed Forest Moss over the raised areas.
I printed out the little robin, cut him out and rubbed Black Soot Distress ink round all the edges to make him really pop and added him to the frame with foam tape.
I added the holly panel to a red glitter card panel then assembled the card with panels of paper from the CD together with backing paper to which I added a brown faux stitched edge. The final touch was a sentiment border made by dropping the gorgeous script text into a Word document, printing it out and trimming the edges then inking them with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

Cinnamon Tea Anyone?
Hello folks, hope you're all having a great weekend. I'm here today with news of yet another giveaway over at the Studio 12 Creative Team blog to celebrate the launch of the Studio 12 Picknix Collection 2 CD - Gingerbread Twist and if you haven't guessed from the name, it's all about Christmas!
The CD launched yesterday on Create & Craft TV and was a massive success as always - if you were watching you might have seen my creation below so do read on if you'd like to know how I made it.
I started off with a blank shadow box which I painted with blue acrylic paint. I then printed off one of the gorgeous holly design papers on to tissue paper. If you haven't done this before, it's quite easy as all you need to do is dry iron a piece of white tissue paper around 3cm all round larger than A4 then attach this to a piece of thin card, wrapping it round the back and securing with tape. Just be careful about getting it as flat as you can so it doesn't catch in the printer.
I attached the printed tissue to the frame with Ranger Glue and Seal and rubbed paint round the edges.
I then printed out a variety of the images inspired by the sentiment which says "Come to my table and share with me gingerbread, cookies and cinnamon tea" - I think this is just lovely and perfect for the kitchen.
I covered the inside of the frame with some of the gorgeous distressed look gingerbread man paper then added the cut out embellishments which I rounded out with an embossing ball tool before adding with foam tape.
